Where All the Questions End. Somar Yahya. 2023.

A coming-of-age, semi-autobiographical, and dreamlike animated short film that follows an undefined soul as it repeatedly experiences existential clashes in an alienating world.

Told from the soul’s perspective—the film’s main narrator—the world appears artificial, disconnected from nature, and isolating in the way it forces its citizens to communicate through impersonal means. Through an immersive and evocative journey, the film evokes cultural frustration, anger, nostalgia, and love, ultimately questioning the absurdity of our perception of linear time and what truly matters in life.

Born in Damascus, Syria, Somar Yahya is a painter and mixed-media filmmaker whose work transforms complex, realistic narratives into captivating visual experiences. His artistic journey began at the age of thirteen, creating graffiti art on paper and walls in the suburbs of his hometown.

At sixteen, amidst the backdrop of war, he relocated to the Netherlands. He studied Graphic Design at Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht Design School, followed by a Bachelor in Audio Visual Design at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, and a semester of Motion Design at IED Barcelona. He is currently pursuing a Master's in Design Research at BAU Barcelona.
